Gettysburg Cyclorama, Window Reflection No. 1 – Photo for Nov. 12

I have always felt a special connection with Richard Neutra’s, Gettysburg Cyclorama Building. I visited many times during the nearly 50 years it was open. I have viewed the battlefield from its observation platform, bought books in its bookstore, used the upstairs lobby to study photographs with friends and work on photographic equipment and did view the Gettysburg Cyclorama, which was the central purpose of the building. Today, this architecturally significant structure is deserted and the National Park Service wants to demolish it. I have been photographing the building whenever I am in the area. This photo was taken last March. I intend to post more of these photos.

Guy and Girl from the Band – Photos for Nov. 9

I took this series of photos about a year ago. There was a band playing on River Street in Savannah, GA and were asking for donations from those taking photographs, a little different approach. I had a great time taking photographs and donated a couple of dollars to the cause. Unfortunately they were in the shade with some serious backlighting. I had to do a little editing and below am attaching both the color and black and white version of two photos. I find often in these cases that black and white is more forgiving than color.

Clouds Meet Water, Hilton Head Island Infrared – Photo for Nov. 7

I have done several series of photos of what I call “From the Edge”, or in effect where land meets the water on our beach on Hilton Head Island. At low tide our beach and flats extend out several hundred yards beyond the high tide level on the beach. I find walking out into this in between space very interesting and has great potential photographically, particularly as interpreted via digital infrared.

Cobia, Brunswick, GA, No. 1 – Photo for Nov. 4

The Cobia is a small commercial fishing boat that I photographed in 2010. Since than it has been totally scrapped. It is always sad to see old boats in this condition. They were once new and cherished helping provide someone with their livelihood in good weather and bad. Now they are old and grounded awaiting dismemberment.
